essentials you mean?

Whao...where do we start. Let me think.
For starters, go to nano-reef.com, look around there. Read and learn as much as possible and then post specific questions on here. Just to let you know, we don't have too many nano-reefers at MR. hence, the lack of responses to your previous thread.

What works for me.

20 gallon tank w/ 10 gallon sump.
Aqua C Remora skimmer
Coralife 1/10hp chiller
Koralia Hydor 1
(2) Tunze minis (for the corners)
150w MH
Auto top-off
30lbs live rock
Chaeto & Red kelp in fuge w/ rubble rock

As for dosing... my MG was low, but once I finally corrected that, my Calcium is slowly going back up to where it should be

Kalkwasser in the AM.
Kent Calcium (chloride) during the day.
Kent Liquid Reactor at night.
Strontium every few days.
Kent Superbuffer added to Auto top-off and for freshly made saltwater ( I like to keep the pH on the higher end of 8.2-8.4 )

Hope this helps.

I'm neither a girl nor a dreamer. So motion to deny is uncontested.

Ok here is the best advice I can give you. You should dose only what you can test for and also you should dose according to the livestock you plan to keep as well as according to your current levels.

Weekly 10% water change with RO/DI water. I guess it should apply to all tank but Nano tank is so easy to do this, you shouldn't skip it for any reason.

I had 12G NC tank, I did water change every week, I didn't need any skimmer.

Welcome Jag...I'm about 2 months new to the hobby and have started with a JBJ 24gallon NanoCube... Everything is stock at the moment and the tank to doing well.

The guys at The Reef Shop (formally Reef and Fin) in Stamford, CT. have been top notch in getting me set up and fielding my laundry list of constant questions. I'd highly recommend the shop.

I also troll the boards here and just absorb info...

good luck.

What are you planning on keeping?

I want to do a mixed reef
but mostly work my coral on to the live rock to give the tank balance
the reason why i sarted this nano is to explore reefing before i set up my african cichlid 90gal rr:tongueani

i am having problems with green alge but its slowly disapearing
i just bought a ro unit that is being a pain to set up (which is now a thread)
i love salt water and want to know everything i can before i move foward

pooshay

what do you have now?

Not sure what you're looking for in terms of the Q, but I currently have sponge (the black stuff that comes w/ the tank) and live rock in 1st chamber for mechanical, I use Carbon, Phosban, Polyfilter in the 2nd chamber, 3rd has the heater and pump.

Only additives I use are B-Ionic Calcium Buffer System, comp. 1&2 for alk and ca.

Water changes are easy with this tank and I do a 10% every 1-2 weeks and a 20% every 3-4. I purchased a few test kits and like the Saliferts.

I started with 20-25 lbs of liverock from the shop and livesand. I used cycled water from them as well. 3.5 weeks later I was able to begin adding some livestock.

If you are looking to read up on Reef Aquariums a great book is The Reef Aquarium by Delbeek and Sprung
