Has anyone else tried Corallife's 7.0 and 10.0 calibration fluids?

I recalibrated my PH monitor with Corallife's fluids last night and had to recalibrate again with my pinpoint packet solutions.

It seems Coralife's fluids raised monitor from reading 8.1 to 8.38. I know this was not correct and recalibrated with the pinpoint fluids.

Last week I tried the Corallifes calibration fluid and the 7.00 base reading was much different from when it was calibrated using the pinpoint solution, meaning a big adjustment was needed to get it calibrated to 7.00. Now I am getting much higher pH readings. Which one is correct?...beats me!

You can create a 3rd test fluid with Borax as Craig Bingman has talked about in the past. Calibrate using Coralife packets, test Borax. Calibrate with Pinpoint packets and test Borax. See which one is correct (or closest).

You'll have to track down Bingmans article on Borax to create the fluid and learn what pH value it should have. I don't have a link handy.

I to used coralife to calibrate and found them to be different from pinpoints and my tanks P.H. was higher using the coralife solution.
I will try to have a chemist make me up some solution and see which one is correct. In the mean time I went back to the pinpoint solution.

I dont know which ones correct thats why i created this post.. My best assumption would be to think the Corallife was way off, not the pinpoint packets..

Also the packets that im talking about are the same thing that came with my monitor..

It's lab grade buffer solution accurate to +/- 0.02 units. It has a shelf life of two years which works out to a little less than $2/month for both solutions. I've had them for almost a year and have used about 25% of the bottle. They might have it in a 250ml bottle, I'm not sure. You might find other brands that are cheaper and work fine. I've always used these in the lab and have never had problems.

Alright - need a hand...

My old Ph probe (Pinpoint) seemed shot. Just got a new one.

Put it in the solution 7.0 and let it soak for a long time.

The reading on the monitor was at 5.something - so I tweaked the screw and raised it as high as it would go. It wouldn't go higher than 6.38

SO I tried the 10.0 solution, it read low, I turned the screw as far as it will go without clicking and doing nothing and it is still low (6.38 ) .

Now the Ph monitor is in my sump, reading at 6.38 .

I used the Coralife brand solutions.

Suggestions? THoughts? Is my monitor screwed? The probe not working? Or is it the solutions?

Mandarin. Sounds to me like it's your probe. Might need to be replaced. They do wear out. Clean it thoroughly first, then retry.

Just want to say that i have calibration fluids from american marine and also from hanna, pH7 and 10. They both give the "same" readings with only a diference of 0.04 at 22ºC.

I just got my Pinpoint PH monitor a couple weeks ago. I calibrated at work where they have lab grade cal fluid PH 10 and 7. Then when I got home I calibrated it again with Pinpoints cal fluid just to double check.
Well there was only a .02 difference and that could have been due to temp differences of the cal. fluids. (Note to self: bring in some sealed containers to work and get some cal. fluid for home)
My point is Pinpoints cal fluids seem pretty accurate. Just make sure the cal fluids are still sealed in their pouches before first using. And don't reuse them onced open.

So will tghe Coralife bottles stuff degrade over time? Will the PH get knocked out of whack?

Because my Monitor unit cannot go any higher, the probe is brand new, and the reading is 6.38.

Grrrrrr.

WHat do I do?

Get the 4.0 solution? DO I need to toss out the bottles of solution I got that I've already opened?
