I bought a H. magnifica about 2 weeks ago. Yes, he looked unhappy in the dealers tank (NO lighting etc.). I decided I had space for him and that my tank was maybe better for him than some might have been...He has situated himself on the topmost rock (6" from water surface) under my 250 watt MH. He has 2 maxi-jets (1200's) in his vicinity powered by a wavemaster pro. He hasn't moved in a week now. Is it safe to say that he has found a spot he likes and I won't have to worry about him wandering? ( I have all my PH covered in foam at the intakes still) I set up the rock specifically so that it was in the highest position, flat sided for his large foot and with no adjacent rocks at the same level to the immediate left or right. He would have to move down to get somewhere else. He initially moved a few inches either way but then returned to this spot he occupies now.

I have been feeding him 3 times per week about a 2 cm square (silversides, shrimp, Formula 2). Is this enough? He's always sticky and hungry

Is there anything else I can do to make him happy? (I cannot afford 400 watt MH any time soon, but it is on "the list")

Tank specifics:

180 gal
3 * 250 watt 10 K
2 * 6 foot VHO actinics
ETS 1200 Gemini (Iwaki 70 rlt powering it) with Mecket Mod- nice small bubbles

Modified Knop Calcium Reactor
3600 gal/hour flow (incl maxi-jets)
200 lbs marshall island rock
CC substrate
various corals
2 tangs, 3 clowns, 1 huge damsel
3 cleaner shrimp

Sal: 1.025
T: 78 F
pH 8.4
Alk 11 dkh
Ca 440
No3 2 ppm
Po4 0

3 skunk clowns reside in him....

Thank-you in advance for any info.

Sounds like it has decided that it likes that spot, never can tell though. Mine stayed in one place for a month and then moved to its current location which it has stayed in for 2 years now. If you keep feeding it that much,it will grow huge! I feed mine once a week, still grows but not as fast. I make sure it is really hungry before I feed it... very expanded and reaching up and out... watch it, it will tell you. Dont wait too long though, it will start moving if it doesnt get what it needs. Oh by the way, I dont have MH lights, and mine do wonderful under vho and pc. Have fun.

Like stated above, anemone movement cannot be predicted. But if you supply adequate lighting and current they will normally settle down and remain still. Feeding also seems to help an anemone stay put.

Your 250 watt MH is more than enough light for your anemone. I would suggest that you raise the temp to 80 degrees. Comming from tropical Pacific waters,it may appreciate a slightly higher temperature.
