Do any of you make a point of feeding your hairy mushrooms?

I have some hairy mushrooms and the LFS told me that I should feed them with some sort of concoction they wanted to sell me.

I figured I'd ask you guys before making any unneeded purchases.

if you do feed them, what do you use and how do you do it?

Thanks
Bruce

I bought a single green hairy from the LFS and fed it weekly, usually formula 1 or scallops. It's been dividing monthly.

Point is:
If you have one and want more, then put something on it--scallops, shrimp, fish, formula 1 etc. Nothing special.

If you have a lot and don't want millions: don't feed them. They'll do fine without direct feeding.

Does that advice go for regular mushrooms too? Not just the hairy kinds?

...and you just set the piece of shrimp or scallop on top of the mushroom??

....it wouldn't sit there for long in my tank... thevin' hermits, shrimps and TANG...

I've tried feeding other mushrooms, but they just don't seem to get it, and the food get's eaten by somebody else.

My frilly mushroom, however, will wrap itself around a chunk of shrimp and have it in it's mouth and gone in 5-10 minutes. The frilly part helps too, as the food doesn't roll off as easily. It also seems to do a wholesale split when it multiplies. One day there's one big frilly mushroom, then there's two big frilly mushrooms. My other types of mushroom don't do that. Little tiny mushrooms appear around them. They never split.

A frilly mushroom is much more like a regular anenome than most other mushrooms, IMO.

I have two kinds of large hairy mushrooms and they too, eat. My little multicolored ones really dont seem to eat but keep reproducing. I feed my hairy mushrooms chopped fish that I put in the blender with 1/4 cup of water. I blend it real good and suck it up with a 60cc syringe that has a long piece of 3/8" tubing on it. Then I gently push out some fish mush on the mushrooms(with the pumps off) they start closing right away, and stay closed for about 10 minutes. I do this about 1 time a week. You could use fish or scallops or any seafood meat. I find fish meat is the easiest for me. Also I do this to my frogspawn too. Then I turn on the pumps and what was not eaten gets eaten by other polyps. Steve

Whilst I don't target feed any of my hairies, they are in situations where the water flows past/through them and when the fish are being fed a certain amount of food winds up on them. The fish seem to avoid any small bits which land on the shrooms..almost like they perceive danger in diving in there.
