hey reefers,

i picked up an algae blenny from the lfs last week... its cool as all hell. one of the neatest looking fish i've seen in a while. and my question is...

aside from algae, what does this little bugger eat?

i'm worried that i don't have enough algae in the tank to sustain him. the tank is well established, but there's little macroalgae for him to munch on. has anyone had luck in feeding them with something else?

I have a Red Lipped Blenny that is a grazer also. He devours Nori sheets from the "Ethnic Food" aisle at my local grocery store. He also is a pig when it comes to meaty foods I feed the tank (flake, brine, mysis, squid, shrimp, etc...). It took him a little while to eat meatier foods, but after watching the rest of the world do it I think peer pressure set in and now he is hooked.

I would try Nori and Macro if you have it. I would tie half a sheet or Nori to a small rock or clam shell with rubber bands. I would then place it in the same place in the rock work. At first he was skepitcal but after awhile he got the hang of it.

Now my little Blenny isn't so little and eats flakes off the surface like a goldfish!

Do algae blennys eat microalgae too. I have some brown algae on my sand. Do you think an algae blenny would take care of it?
