Well in the past I have tried heavy skimming, lots of water changes, shortend lighting periods, and less food at feeding.
None of this worked, until I started running the water through carbon filters. Now it seems all these combos together are working. Knock on wood. The GHA is starting to turn white and falling off. Not all of the GHA is dying, but it seems about 75% of it is. I will settle for that at this point in time.
The skimmer seems to be working overtime (ETS SRD) lots of dry foam. Going to keep pluggin away at this stuff till it is gone. The tank is about 8 months old, mabe this has something to do with it to. And I also took off the pre-filter on the return pump.
Also the calcium and alk. have been the most stable they have been since the opening day of the tank. Corals, critters, and purple corraline algea are all booming. Oh yea, so are the shrooms.
I have had to add suppliments every day at a very high dose, just to keep the level respectable. But for the last two days I have done nothing but drip kalk (2.5gal. water,90ml. vinegar, 5 tablespoons kalk) and the readings are 450ppm. Calcium, and about 3.4meq. alk. I can't believe it, mabe my luck is turning around.
I sure hope it stays going in this direction.
Well just thought I would share my good fortune with the rest of you. Thanks for listening, and all of the great suggestion. Thanks Doug.
