"So, the lesson of this research was clear: If aquarists want hair algae growing in their tanks they should use wavemakers and oscillating currents, along with tangs to “control” the algal growth. If they want growth of coralline algae, they should have turbulent or steady flow and sea urchins to control algae. More information on echinoderms, in general, and sea urchins, in particular, may be obtained by examining one of the better invertebrate zoology texts, such as those by Kozloff (1990) or Ruppert and Barnes (1994)."

What do you all think?

I dunno if the lesson is that clear, but if people want info on keeping urchins in their reefs I would rely on the "mythinformation" right here rather than going to an invertebrate zoology text.

I think that those of us that use both ocillating returns AND wavemakers are screwed!

...or maybe not. While there may be some logical connection between the two (hair algae and type of water motion), there are other factors that far outweigh these concerns in my mind. I'm not losing any sleep...
