Can someone tell me if Blue Damsels attack snails and cleaner shrimp. I just added the shrimp and snails, 1 week ago and they are all dead. I have 2 damsels, 1 maroon clown and a bi-coulour bleeny. All the water parameters are good. My shrimp died in 2 days and I think the snails did also???

Did you check for copper in your water?
I am not saying blue damsel would not do anything.. you never know with those damsels (mine is eating my corals). But I doubt the damsel is to blame on this

I second Goldmoon. My blue damsel doesn't bother my snails (no cleaners in his tank). Copper will do a number on the inverts. Maybe you got an old tank that was treated with copper?

Before my roomate got rid of his blue damsel it would nip the antenae of his turbos. I don't know if it would kill the snails, but I wouldn't put it past them. Little bastards.

My friend has a damsel in a small tank. It wouldn't leave his snails alone in a 29g, but in a 10g it gets along just fine with a coral banded shrimp. They are nippy little bastards, though, to be sure.

I have a blue devil (Pomacentrus Coeruleus)that has dug a hole in the sand under some rocks that it calls home and will defend it against everything including my hand, but has never killed anything. Snails and such it will just push them out of the way. Everything dying so quickly sounds like to me the aclamation process or what has been mentioned already something in the water.

Good Luck
Mike

I have never owned a Damsel but on a dive a few weeks ago I hovered over a wreck and watched a bunch of them that all had their territories along the front rail of a wreck.

I can honestly say after watching them interact with their surroundings that saying If Dmasels were the size of sharks none of us would ever go in the ocean. is 100% true.

I've had a lot of trouble keeping large Turbos... I was referred by a member of this group to an excellent article on snails. They are quite sensative to environmental changes like temp, water quality, salinity, etc... it's lke a lost cause in my tank, so I use other critters.... it could be as simple as this in your case...

I think your blenny would be a more likely aggressor towards your snails and shrimp, depending on what kind it is. I have 6 damsels, 4 yellow tail, a domino, and a 3 stripe in my reef, and they don't bother anyone but each other.

I take that back, they will chase my chromis around and the domino fights with the clown over the anemone, but always loses.
