I know that BTAs have the symbiotic algae, but do they need any additional feeding?

Also, are they considered to be hardy as far as anemones go?

Like any Anemone, yes they do fare better with supplemental feeding. I feed my Rose quadricolor either fresh shrimp or silversides once a week. And they are considered to be one of the hardiest anemones you can keep.

Pathos - I have been considering a rose quadricolor. They are beautiful animals. Any problem with yours wandering or snacking on the other inhabitants? Would appreciate any advice.

I've had my Rose(s) for over 3 yrs. It has split 3 times. (much to my friends joy)
The only time my BTA moves around is when its getting ready to split.
As far as feeding goes, my pair of Marrone (sp) clowns give it plenty to eat.

they wander around a little bit at first, but if you feed regularly, provide them with medium to high lighting, moderate current and a dark crevice in the LR for them to place their foot, they will pretty much stay put.

Feed your BTA once a week for health. Feeding also seems to help an anemone stay put,as well as reproduce.

Most importantly, you must protect your anemone from heaters and filter/powerhead intakes.

Steve:

I was really amazed by what Dr. Ron said in reference to feeding anemones. If his premise that the zooxanthellae only provides carbs is true, then it makes total sense that we are not feeding anemones as much as we could, or should be.

Thanks for giving me the heads up on the post. Very informative!

Jen

P.S. I bought my first BTA Friday!
