My peppermint did a great job removing my aptasia. Just wondering now that most of those pests seem to be gone, do I need to / how should I feed my new shrimp?? As I would like to keep him away from munching things without my permision.

I would also like to see him a little more active, moving around. He has found a really nice hiding spot, and doesn't not come out very often. He has been in the tank for a week or so, and has already shed a layer. Any suggestions??

After they finish of the aiptasia You can feed them Brine shrimp, flakes, squid, krill, etc. pretty much anything. They will learn to come out more after they depend on you for feeding.

Mine comes out as soon as i put the food in the water now. He's also out maybe 3 times a week picking at the rocks.

Hopefully yours will come out more too. If not you can always buy a cleaner shrimp.

Peppermint shrimp are nocturnal. I've had them for a long time, and everytime I look at my tank at night, they are out and about.

My pepperment was bought because of an evil anenemone that was a prominent candidate for a tank wide plague (don't ask

). After she had completed her task she survived the holocaust (it involved a main pump dieing leaving no air availability, well lets just say by the end the hermits were abandoning their shells) unlike her acquaintance the late CBS. At first she only came out during the night to scavenge for food, but eventually she started coming out of her little dark ledge a lot in the day she took in brine and the occasional krill and molted more than I can count and reached a lenghth of about 3" and very nice coloring. But of course a few days after the addition of a free Arrowhead Crab we noticed him eating something dark red, you get the idea. So I hope my compilation of problems my tank has had in it's past only to come to its current day has aided you. And my advice to you is "Don't mix a just molted, soft shelled Peppermint Shrimp with an Arrowhead Crab who wasn't fed enough"...

I put 4 peppermint shrimp in my tank and they have become close friends with the aptasia, allowing them to prosper and multiply freely.

Those darn peps are slackers (at least the ones in my tank). They feed on the easy food and hunt nothing for themselves. But they are cool looking critters and are fun to watch, so they can stay

Others report mixed results here with peps regarding aptasia control.
