I introduced a Ocellaris Clownfish to my tank last night and he is exhibiting some unusual behavior. I spent about an hour acclimating him before I set him free. He stayed at the front top corner of the tank and gave us his best Stevie Wonder impersonation. The last fish I added went into hiding for a few hours before he ventured out and explored the tank. I thought the clown was just stressing from the move so I gave him the night to settle in and this morning he was doing the same thing. He hasn't explored the tank yet but he is eating. The rest of the inhabitants are looking good and healthy (2 Peppermint Shrimp, Gulf Pink Tip Anemone, Brittle Star, numerous snails and BL crabs). It's a nano and I only plan on keeping 1 or 2 small fish. The last fish, a dwarf angel, disappeared overnight about 2 weeks ago (blamed on a hairy crab that was removed).
The water params a nearly perfect. 0,0,0, pH ~8.0,82F, SG 10245 and I do a weekly 15% water change matching SG and temp as close as possible.
The only thing I can think of is that there is electricity leaking into the tank.
Would the other inhabitants be immune to an electrical current?
How do I go about testing this?
If I unplug everything, can I expect an immediate reaction from the clown's behavior?
I wish I had time to try a few things before I went to work, so I'll have to wait until tonight before I can experiment.
Maybe I'm being a little to impatient, but I thought it was unusual that he didn't drop to the bottom to hide toward the back of the tank.
Thanks for any thoughts.
