I have a 20 gallon reef tank that has been up for 7 months. I have colraline algae all over the place. Biggest one being about 1/4 inch round. The lighting I'm using is JBJ 110 watt 50/50 10,000k and the blue lights. Ready to buy some acropora? I want to get some for Christmas. By the way anyone know where to get some online at a good price? Thanks!

You don't need halides. I have kept a few species of acros under 330 watts of power compact lighting. They do have to be inches from the bulbs and most will turn brown, but i have had good growth from the acroporas with just power compact lighting. Metal halide is the way to go for colorful acros and I just got a 400 watt system for my tank.

Maybe if you want to try acros try to find some frags from someone who grows them under vho's, maybe that way they will be somewhat adjusted to the light. I would maybe try some montiporias first to start and see how they do(just a thought). I have monti's and acros under 660 watts of vho's myself and get good color and decent growth out of them.
