I bought a pearl bubble coral this morning at the LFS. Looked great in their tank. Since I've had it home, it hasn't fully "opened" up. Some bubbles are showing, but nothing what it looked like in the store. I read that the more light they have the less they will open. Is this correct? Where does everyone have theirs - lot's of light or not so much light? I probably just haven't given it enough time... Water checks are in par. Lot's of light, and in medium/low flow. P.S. Noticed I crossed the 50 post mark. Think I'll have a beer.....(That's a good enough reason in WI.)

Give it time. Most corals don't look so hot until they have adjusted to the new tank environment.

Wow tetra, that's a monster! Nice tank too

That's right. They will take time to acclimate to your tank and it's unique conditions. Also, you are correct when you ask if they will come out more in lower lighting conditions. IMO, the further something extends, the more it is trying to expose itself to the available light. Mushrooms are an excellent example of how this works. Often, in the stores, they are huge and extended up on their stalks, and they take on a trumpet like appearance. Once we get them home, they shrink down and their stalk becomes non-existent. This is because we have better lighting usually in our homes.

Thanks for the replies. I'll give it a day or two, then go from there. I moved it back in a somewhat shaded area. Nice tank tetra..

Mine is under medium light. I vary the flow around it a lot--it doesn't seem to mind it unless I point the powerhead right at it. Here's a good one I took lastnight in the last minutes of the photoperiod. It's about 6" across the bubbles with a pair of 4" sweepers coming off the starboard side.
