About 4 days ago I ordered 15 Astrea Snails and 20 Nassarius snails from Etropicals. Over the last 3 days I've noticed the nassarius huddled in a big group (can I say orgy here?), and when I come back later there would be an empty Astrea shell. This has happened 4 times since the first incident. I wasn't sure if they just ate a dead Astrea, and even then, I didn't think the Nassarius species were carnivorous -only detrivores. Could these be the snails that are mistaken for Nassarius? They do seem bigger than a expected [about 1"], and I thought they were only supposed to get up to .5".
Could someone post a pic what they should look like, included the actual snail.

Thanks,
Greg

nassarius are not true detrivores, they are carrion eaters. once they get the scent of dead or dying animals, they will swarm like not other.

however, a picture of the snails can help in the indentification.
