The CPR Cyclone 194 (seen here)- a combined wet/dry sump & stock skimmer, with the skimmer housed inside. I'm contemplating using it for a 150 gal that I'm planning.

I was wondering if anybody has any opinions about this piece of equipment, particularly the skimmer.

I only want moderate skimming, so I figured I'd opt for this rather than one of the high-tech skimmers.

At first glance (given the photo) it seems to be compact & well-designed. Has anybody used one of these?

I have a CY 192 on my 37 gallon and really like it. I got it because I thought my Berlin was overskimming and because I wanted something built as an all-in-one system. It was a bit pricy, but it really does an excellent job and I am thoroughly pleased with it. Plus, CPR has excellent customer service and stands behind their products. I just bought a CY 194 to go with my new 75 gallon. I had the 194 custom drilled to use some larger PVC fittings. It's not up and running yet, so I can't give you any comments from experience with it. If you want more specific information, try CPR's website. (www.cprusa.com). They have a bulletin board with questions by consumers and answers by CPR. One other thing for what it's worth: For your 150 gallon, you may want to consider the next size larger than the 194. CPR states their tank-size ratings are accurate, and I don't doubt them, but I always feel better moving up a size in filter-related things. The main reason I got the 194 for my new 75, instead of using the 192, was because I wanted lots of extra sump volume to handle the tank overflow in the event of a power outage. In this respect, the 192 would have been a close call for a 75 gallon, but the 194 is more than sufficient. Good luck.

I have both a 192 on a 37g Oceanic and a 294 on a 120g Oceanic RR. Both tanks are perfoming well. I have had the 294 for about 5 years. It has done well but you need to keep the venturis cleaned on a regular basis. I also oversized them to the tank because of the same reason ... more sump space to handle overflow in a power outage. For a 150g I would consider the 294. I got mine through Premium Aquatics, they had the best prices. Overall I have been satisfied with them.
