alk fluctuation

I know that it is normal for ph to fluctuate between lights off/lights on. Does the same hold true for alk? If so what is considered a "normal" fluctuation in a reef tank.

I ask because my alk levels have fluctuated from 2.5 (tested when lights just came on) to > 3.0 (tested at night when lights have been on for 5-6 hours). Is this normal? Thanks.

The only way I would expect to see daily fluction in alk would be if I were making daily adjustments to it. Otherwise it just comes down slowly till I readj.
