My refugium has a layer of green filimintus algee growing on the bed and on my Macro( grape , tang haven, feather ) algee, it has the full bed of my 30 gal refugium covered. You cant reach in and pick it off it falls apart, what can i do to clean it( i dont have a canister filter to suck it out with), how about some eurithomycian(sp..lol)?

First of all, how old is your refegium??
You should also have an amble supplies of critters in ref to help maintain from micro algae.
Adding Mangroves would also be beneficial.
It is also helpful to check your paramiters in the ref. to make sure things are the same as your tank. The only difference in mine is the temp is slightly elevated compared to my display tank due to the light and size.
What do you currently have for light over your ref?? How old is the bulb?

Get a Sally Lightfoot crab or an Emerald Green Crab for the refugium. I had a bad hair algae problem in the main tank and bought a few.... they wiped it out in no time flat.

Both those crabs (emerald and sallylightfoot)will devistate your macroalgae. I placed an additinal PH for circulation in my refugium for just that reason, and the problem cleared up quickly. It sounds like a bloom that will abate in time.

How long has your tank been set up?

nah it's not a real good idea to put predators in the refugium. You want this algae to grow, even the filamentous stuff. If it is getting out of control then export some of it, do a water change and cut back on the lighting.

the refugium has been up about 2 months, i started it with a 9 for 99 deal from IPSF plus live sand from a few local reefers, and it is hooked up to my system ( tank and sump , ) which have been up for almost 2 years..
i think i like the power head idea, as i have VERY LITTLE flow in the Refugium
no to the crabs... dont like to scratch..
any other ideas?
