I've had a chocolate chip star since Feb. and have had great luck feeding him pieces of shrimp every 4 to 5 days. I keep whole frozen shrimp and just break off pieces, thaw and place them under the star. This is so the hermits won't get it first. He has also on ocassion munched on an astrea snail that had the misfortune of overturning.
Hi:
they are meat eaters/carnivores. They will eat mainly meaty foods (including soft corals). I also feed mine shrimp chunks, and crab meat. Not reefsafe by the way

I have a chocolate star now for 3 plus years doing great I dont feed him on a regular basics untill I found him eating some of my mushroom's I just bought. I never had a problem with him on any other corals just the mushrooms. Anyway I do feed him once a week.
