I've had a sudden bloom of brown algea, and it's different any algae of i've gotten in the past: it's thinker, deeper brown, and there are air bubbles on top of the sand. water conditions: ph = 8.2, nitrates =15, and phosphates are 0 (although i don't know if i trust the phosphate test...is it likel that it's actually 0). I've attached a pic

you may have something there

I've been upgrading from a non-reef to a reef tank. i only have softies, so i'm still using the sytem i've had (protein skimmer and an eheim). I'm in the process of changing the entire set up (yes, dumping the eheim for a sump/fuge) and i'm trying to find some koralia pumps.

I could see how the water movement might be a problem, but i've never had this problem before.

algea

looks like you got green and red algea in sand, had same thing and got more and better water movement and did one major water change and small one over the next few weeks and pretty much cleared problem up. also what type of cleanup crew do you have ?

Do a search for Cyano here and you can see some really great ways of removing Cyano (slime algae) in your tank.

don't think it's brown jeally disease

the links talk about this being on my corals, and it's not, it's on the sand bed.
