As the editor of our Advanced Aquarist, I would like to know the ways you would like us to improve the publication, or put another way, what are the problems you have with it?

I think having only one forum linked to Advanced Aquariust would be fine. With the high number of forums dedicated to it now, it thins things out too much and makes it kind of a headache to visit the discussions.

Chris George,

Thanks for the reply. We will look into this; we may have over-organized the Forum.

I'd call them advanced, and I like your ideas.

Shipping methods for corals would be a nice thing to add to any propagation feature. I've always wanted a nice resource for how to bag, package, and ship corals to my fellow reefkeepers.

One thing I would like to see is a more diverse set of topics. I know the mag is new, but the articles seem to be hovering around the same things, lighting, chemistry, biology, etc....

I'd like to see more information on reef keeping techniques, as they seem to differ based on where you live (e.g., US vs Germany). Also, more info on fragging and propagation. But maybe these things aren't "advanced".....

Pez,

Funny you should ask, because I'm in the process of making arrangements with Daniel Knop, the editor of the German magazine Koralle, to share husbandry information. In fact, I'm currently editing a Mangrove husbandry article by Knop for our publication, and you will soon see fish articles by Greg Schiemer and Scott Michael.

More pictures. Especially of other aquarists' set-ups rather than stock wild pics. Overall, the magazine is awesome and has filled the void left after aquarium frontiers.

Yellow Dog,

Not really on the subject, but I wanted to try another way to upload photos. We are working to make it easier for everyone to upload photos. This is not a stock photo; it is a recent picture of my PB's enemy.

Hi Terry,

I have a critique and a suggestion.

I love the content and the fantastic photographs in the magazine.

Critique
I find the "fuzzy image" logo & lettering to be distracting and hard on the eyes.

logolight.jpg

Suggestion

I would love to see some sort of index developed, much like the index Kevin Done created for the Aquarium Frontiers articles. By Author, Topic and so on...

Randy,

We will be doing a number of things to make navagating easier with new software.

Thanks

I think I enjoy pictures of setups just as much as pictures of livestock. Its just my engineering side showing itself I guess, but I think it would be really cool if you showed pictures of peoples setups; atleast in the featured aquarium section.

Is Advanced Aquarist even looking at freshwater? I thought it was a reef/saltwater only site.

I noticed something today while browsing through the March issue. There is a terrible lag when I mouse-scroll down a page. It only happens when there are images on the screen. I went through other webpages I frequent to see if it was my comptuer, but it is not. It is definitely something specific to AA. Can someone else scroll around through a page with images and see if you get the same kind of jitter/lag?

I went through the page source and could find no reason for it, there wasn't any java script or anything going on. Maybe the thumbnail images are actually large images scaled down with html code? If so, that may explain it.

I work for an in-house ad agency and would be happy to help develop a front page if you would like or need the help.

I think it is time to also include more articles that deal with the conservation side of the marine environement. I feel that we as hobbiest should at least stay up to date on what is taking place with the worlds reefs, import bans, etc...

To answer one poster's question:

We chose the name for the magazine very carefully. It is Advanced Aquarist.
That means that the magazine can (and hopefully will) grow and expand to also contain information about freshwater aquaria such as:

Discus/Amazon tanks
Planted Aquaria
Cichlids
Freshwater Natives
Paludariums

Right now our "core business" is marine aquaria. We are in our infancy now, having published just three issues - so we are still learning. We need to find out what people are interested in seeing and reading about.

That is why your feedback is so important. Thanks guys (and gals)!

Cheers

Chris: Nope, the images aren't scaled with tags. Not sure what you're running into, but send me a link to a page that behaves this way for you and I'll look at it.

SPC: Yes, I agree about the need for conservation-related articles. There's a featured aquarium in the works that I think you'll be pleased with.
