Since your urchin is carrying things around, I'm guessing it is Mespilia globulus (image: )?http://www.aquariumarts.com/shortspineurchin.jpeg

This urchin is a excellent herbivore altough it will eat some of your coralline algae. This has been shown to actually accelerate coralline algae growth so you shouldn't have any problems with it. As always with urchins, try not to touch the spines with your bare hands. It does *not* eat detritus so it should be kept in main aquarium where there is some algae growth.

Since your mushrooms came with small rocks it should be quite easy to secure them in place. You can use either super glue or some two part underwater epoxies like "Aqua Medic Reef Construct" or "Salifert Coral Stick". You can use all these products underwater, no need to remove rocks from aquarium.

Shrooms are quite hardy, and if removed from the urchin they will float around the tank taking residence wherever they lay to rest. But if you are intent on keeping them in one place you can buy some grapes and save that plastic net thingy. Take the shrooms out and place them on a rock. Then place the net over both of them. Rubberband it down, and after a few days they will be attached and you can remove the plastic.

If they are still attached to the small rocks, get some uderwater epoxy from any online store and secure them to a larger rock.

Hello,

After having a tank for a few months now I decided to add some mushrooms to the tank which has 2 clowns, a few snails, a couple hermits, and 1 sea urchin.
I have a problem, The sea urchin that I have likes to take any loose rocks/snails/etc and carry them on his back and sides for protection I suppose. Welp, since the mushrooms are not secured to anything, the urchin likes to carry these around too... How do I secure the mushrooms to the Live Rock so he cannot take them?
Each mushroom came with a tiny piece of rock but not heavy enough to weigh it down.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Joel

Not sure I would keep an urchin. I suppose I might put one in a sump to eat detritus but not sure about the show tank. I thought they were a little too destructive and ate too many good things...

I am sure someone else will enlighten us both...
