Clown in a brain

Hi all,

What do you do if your perc. is "hanging around" your open brain and therefore keeping him closed?

Thanks for sharing any or your experiences.

huh, mine only hang out in him at night. they sleep on or around him...i thought that was wierd

Unforunately, you have only two choices once he's adopted a host. Find the clown a new host (preferably, a natural anemone host), or remove the clown. True A.percula has a very limited selection of natural hosts: Heteractis crispa (sebae), H. magnifica (radiant or ritteri), & Stichodactyla gigantea (carpet). All of these species are very hard to keep. It may adopt unnatural but easier-to-husband anemone hosts, such as E.quadricolor (bubble tip anemone) or M.doerensis (long tentacle anemone).

Hey there,

I read some stuff at Garf that said you could use other things like leathers for hosts too. The site is WWW.GARF.ORG you will have to search a little on the site to find the article but it shouldn't be too hard to find. They say that the anemone are hard to keep and they are trying to solve the problem of buying too many anemone. They prefer using home grown corals instead. If you can't find the article let me know I will get you the link.

Anemone fish can adopt almost anything for a host, the ultimate concern, though, is going to be whether the relationship is good for the fish and the host. As far as getting the perc to vacate the brain, I would also suggest moving the brain, maybe the clown will stay in his already established territory instead of following the brain. Obviously, it would be better to give it a new host, but try moving the brain before you do that if you're concerned about a delicate anemone.
