I got a cleaner shrimp the other day and was just curious if I should be hand feeding him. He is a very busy little guy and spends alot of his time cleaning the fish. When I put food in the water he comes out from his hanging spot like he is hungry. But, I don't see him eating any of it. Thanks for your help.

They are always hungry.....flake is just fine for them. Actually, foraging between LR's should be sufficient for them.

Just as a precaution you may want to try and feed your shrimp (lysmatta amb. right?). Depending on what kind of fish you keep, there is the possibility they can be "out-hussled" for food and possibly starve. Target/hamd-feeding them is usually not a problem as they're fairly bold critters, and it's fun to do.

If you have lots of live rock then I'd not worry much about feeding - there's loads of tasty things they can catch themselves.

They're not hard to hand feed though - they'll come running over once they think there's food in the tank.

I had a cleaner shrimp in my last tank that liked to eat flake food. I don't think their eyes are very well developed. If you want to hand feed them you can; just make sure that the flake lands on their feelers/antennae or whatever those things are and he will aggressively chew it down into little bits. (At least mine did)
