I have had a pair of percs for a couple of months now and both doing well. This morning one of them is just sort of hanging around in a bottom corner of the tank. He did eat but is acting very differntly than normal. No visible indications of anything wrong. All water parameters are fine and there have been no new fish added (these were the last fish added) I did add a camel back shrimp last week. Any thoughts?

I really wouldn't worry unless it stops eating. Clowns have a knack for going to a spot and staying there many hours a day. The addition of the shrimp may be causing the clown to "stand guard" at his/her territory. But unless you see a lack of eating or obvious health problems I wouldn't worry.

Thank you for the words of encouragement! I will keep a close eye on him for a couple of days. What really has me concerned is the fact that his partener which he normally hangs around with is badgering him in his little corner of the tank. The 2 clowns were added at the same time and have always gotten along well. Just have to wait and see.

How long have you had them? Were they juveniles when you got them? They could be pairing off, and the submissive one will become a sexually mature male and the dominant one will become female.

If one is already noticably larger than the other, that has already happened, and the large one is the female.

My male spends most of his time in the same spot. I've never seen them spawn, but if they did, there are other critters that would be happy to have caviar for supper...he could be standing guard where his eggs "were"....

The sexual selection is possible I have 2 percs that you would swear were siamese twins the first 2 months then all of a sudden BAMM ! one started chasing the other and kept him in a small cave for a week.

Now they are back together and the one is noticeably larger even though they were always previously the same size. They swim together just like they used too.

I guess the big one just decided to become female and we all know how women are

This sounds exactly like what I am seeing. The percs were both the same size when I got them (fairly small) I've had them about 2 months and they have stayed right together the whole time. Now the one is staying in one corner or another all the time. The other perc is chasing him around unmercifully. He is still eating ok though so maybe he will be ok.

She'll bully him, but he'll keep coming around. He's a man, he can't stay away.

man, how the thread changes! first, started as sick clown. Now, its turned into male-bashing. What next, a return to the life and times of quillen and tangirl? I need a nap. For all men (percs. included) I say we just say no!
