What is the best way the frag xenia? In the past I have just set a rock next to it and it jumps on the rock. I need some for next weekend, I need a faster way. I thought about cutting it with a razor blade and sticking a toothpick through it using a rubberband to hold it on the rock. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have a method that works well.

First, lean you xenia against the back glass wall. Within a week it should connect to the glass and start to run up towards the surface. As it moves it it grows increadibly fast and by the time it reaches the surface there will be a whole bunch. Then you cut the ones on the top of with a razor blade. They come of easy becouse you have a smooth surface. I then take a small rock and place the xenia on it. Wrap some plastic screening around the rock to hold the xenia to the rock, and use rubber bands to hold the screen in place. In 3 days remove the screen and the xenia is attatched.

This is what I do. I cut a double stalk and lay this on a rock and rubberband it between the stalks. They will gradually split and attach to the rock making two colonies. I also do this with single stalks, but sometimes they will grow over the band, which is usually easy to cut and remove.

It must be done extremely delicately. I grab the whole thing with my hand and literally rip it off the rock. I get a rubber band and band it to the rock. It's very easy, quick, and the tissue left over grows back into colonies.

If it's a faster growing variety, then use the grab and tear method. If you're looking for quick attachment, it only takes a few hours to a day to attach. Or, if you want it to look prettier (not all torn up and looking like an empty nylon) take a razor and cut it wherever you want and use superglue to mount it. I personally just use the grab and tear method, and I have tons and tons and tons of it in my tank (xenia elongata) but for my pom pom xenia, I use a razor blade after it has attached somewhere else. I have also heard that you can frag individual polyps of the pom pom, but I haven't done that yet.
