What are the other tank inhabitants? You can try using a pvc pipe with a cap on one end, placing a bit of food in it, when shrimp goes in, lift up and out he comes.

Hi,

I had to catch some peps a couple of months ago and the following trap worked like a charm.

Take a small plastic water bottle, and cut the top offabout two inches down from the opening. Part A, the spout and B the body. Cut Put part A into part B with the spout pointing into the body of part B (basically, the spout is now upside down). Make three holes in each part that line up with the holes of the other part. Zip tie the two parts togeather. Tie some fishing line to one of the zip ties. Fill with tank water, and put some food inside the trap. Lower the trap into the tank and leave it over night. Good luck.

Let me know if this makes no sense

thanks, it makes sense. i mite try the bottle thing, but i'll need to get "food" to put in there. I usually feed it flake food. 2 days ago i decided to feed my ricordia for the 1st time. i fed it flake food and gave my shrimp nothing. I have 3 orange ricordia that i fed. The green one i didnt feed, and thats the one the shrimp tried to eat.maybe it tasted better than the orange ones. but i know it was trying to eat it, becuz thats how it treated the aptasia i used to have. The peppermint ate those, and was a good shrimp for 4+ months until 2 days ago. The only thing i have in the tank is coral. I got the shrimp becuz of the aptasia

Hey mike, I'm no defender of peppermint shrimp but is it possible the mushroom grabbed a piece of passing food and curled up to eat it, and the pepp shrimp tried to take the food away from the shroom and that's when you saw it. 'Cause that's pretty typical behaviour. When I keep my shrimp in the main tank for aiptasia removal duty I always feed the shrimp first, and then the corals. Because they definitely will invade polyps to steal food. Otherwise I keep my shrimp in the sump where I get the benefit of their monthly spawnings without the downside of their pod predation and polyp trimming.

Hi, no it wasnt only trying to steal food. It did that at first, but now its definately trying to eat the ricordea. The food is long gone and the green ricordia polyp is in a very small ball. I looked in the tank this morning and saw the shrimp picking at the ball with its claws. So far he hasnt done much to the orange polyps. The orange ones are more expensive to replace. Although i did like the green polyp. I had one orange polyp that divided into 3 polyps. The green one never split. I've had the ricordia for about 4 months and the tank for 6 1/2 months.

Hi: Never head of a peppermint eating mushrooms ..but there is always somethig new in this hobby. Does the shrimp come out when you feed?? What I did to get mine out was to put some food in a net..the shrimp walked right into the net..couldn't have been easier. Good luck.

Curious about something. What do folks feed their peppermint shrimp? I didn't think they needed special food. Mine just eat the scraps of whatever I feed my fish, which is frozen brine and flakes. They seem to be doing fine. Thanks!
