It would be a very cost effective way to turn normal powerheads into a wavemaking system.

It looks like a standard power strip but with 3 cycled outlets and 3 standard outlets.

But are they dependable? Do they reduce the life of the powerheads?

I've seen the Natural Wave (by Aquarium Systems) for $50 online.

Thanks for your input.

I have been using one w/ 2 maxijet 1200's along with a sea-swirl(not connected to wave strip).
I really like it so far, it has only been a couple of months, but so far so good!!

Well, I bought one a while back but have not had such good luck with it. I used rio pumps and they make alot of noise when they go off and on again. They rattle like hell. I have been planning to add a couple smaller powerheads to my tank and phase out a bigger rio. When I do this I will use it again. It is a cool idea and does work out well. Just don't use rio pumps for it. I am thinking about getting a controller that has a few more settings since this one has just been a ower strip since I got it.

You know, after looking at the prices of wavemakers, I just could not justify the expense (esp. since I'm also trying to phase out the rio's). Then I went to home depot. They had a didgital controller for turning on/off lights w/52 settings/day (26 on/off combo's/day). You could set it for each day of the week to be different. I hooked the four in tank pumps to their own sep. controller, spent 50$ for all 4 controllers. This was 6mths ago- things are working great. Just to give your another option.

Taz, What does the digital timer look like. Since I only need 1 powerhead on/off, It sounds like a great idea.

Maxijets do not click when they kick on. I have used a wavemaker for a year and love it. I now have a sea swirl, but will be adding the wavemaker later. The strip is basically a cheap wavemaker.

Bascically looks like a switch dial indoor timer, however, its digital, with much reliability from my current exp. (note- only 6mths to this point). The screen show time/day, and has setting for daylight savings, but I don't change mine. It also has an LED indicator to let you know if it is cycled on or off. One drawback- it is wider than 1 plug on a multiple plug in, you'll lose 2 ports with it. Don't have a picture of it, hope this helps though.

O.k., found it, but can't copy pic from home depot site to here. It is made by Intermatic
its a 7day heavy duty digital timer w/battery back up (won't run the pumps, just remembers its settings in a blackout).
