Is my live rock now dead rock?

I moved last summer. Took all my live rock and put it in a 20 gal. rubbermaid container. Put powerhead in to keep salt water moving. Put lid on it. No light. I planning on setting up tank again. Is the rock basically dead now after 8 months without lights? What should I do? Use it as base rock? Or will it come back?

How bad did it smell??y guess would be it is all dead....no light, no food, etc. I would clean it all and use at as base rock.

I might guess that as long as there was no evaporation it should be just fine.

Use it as base rock. Seed it with some LR and you will be back in business in a few months.

Hard to say. There wasn't much o2 in there, so it may be dead. Base rock takes 18 + months to re-seed, BTW.
