placement of a single mh

anyone ever place a single mh fixture offset of center on a long tank to affect lighting gradiants across length of tank rather than just vertical gradients?

For instance, a 250 on one end of a 5 foot tank with vho supplements running the whole length.

I'm thinking sps directly under mh and softies and shrooms down at other end of tank.

Would this produce asthetically pleasing point source shimmer lines?

just thinking out loud. anyone have similar thoughts or thoughts on why this would be no good?

I have that exact setup. My MH is about 2" left of the center brace, 4 x 48" VHO continuous. SPS on the left side, LPS and softies on the right. Best of both worlds - shimmer line across the whole tank (a bit more on the left side). You can hardly notice the difference. Be careful to place the MH far enough away from the center brace to prevent a shadow line from the brace. HTH

Anyone who put that much thought into it would buy a tank twice as long and get the effect at both ends. Great excuse to buy a bigger tank sharedude.
