Hi...
I´m figuring out what system to buy a Kent Marine or Spectrapure RO/DI 4 stage filter, they cost almost the same, but I want to know which is better.
I´m also wondering which will be the best GPD rate for me...I´m starting a 110 Gallons Tank so I don´t really know if a 25 GPD will do or a 50 to 60 GPD will be to much. As I see the smaller one will be ok for me...Please Advice
Best Regards...

The GPD that you will actually achieve will usually be much less (roughly half) than the rated GPD, because at colder water temperatures (ie water from a typical cold water line) the RO unit is less efficient, so keep this in mind when choosing your GPD rate. I have a Kent Marine and am happy with it.

I have a 90G tank, and a Kent MAX25-which puts out maybe 10 or so gallons a day, which is adequate but I should also have got the 50 GPD since they aren't much more expensive.

Roy,
I´m wonder the size of your tank and sump, and the model of your kent marine unit. And if the output of your unit is adecuate for the size of your tank.
I don´t want to run short of supply of filtered water for my manteinance...Keep wodering 25GPD or 50-60GPD...I think I´ll go for the 50-60GPD, I´ve seen this unit just for a few bucks more...
Regards...

I chose to buy a Kent Maxxima since it wa sa bit cheaper than the SpectraPure. I hear good things about both. Also keep in mind that what is really important is the media that goes into the units, and most types of media are interchangable between the 2 brands of RO/DI units.

In my opinion you can't get "too much" as far as the GPD rate. I agree with Roy's comment that you will not achieve the rated GPD in practice (other factors such as the age of the membrane and the quality of the tap water going in will slow it down, in addition to temp).

In practice even the higher GPD units are achingly slow. If you have a spot where you can leave it "plugged in" more or less permanently, this would be less of a problem I suppose.

Well, my plan is to get a unit capable of serving my needs, and as I stated earlier my needs are for manteining a 110G tank + it sump (20 or 30G, I guess)plus eventual experiments, curing rock, etc...
I´m figuring out a 50-60 GPD 5 stage unit, coupled with a presasure gauge, and extra carbon filter, flush kit, purity monitor, water reservouir(maybe 100G or more with a flot valve to shut up the filters), and I hope not a pump to rise the input water preasure if the rate at home does not equals the 50psi.
What do you think, as for now this setup seems proper. I´ll keep waiting for some more input until I make my final desicion.
Reagards.....
