My Juvenile Imperator Angel is about to begin transforming to his adult colors. I would like to take pictures of this entire process with a digital camera that I have yet to own. I was planning on purchasing this camera for xmas in 2 weeks. My question is does anyone know how rapidly does this process take place, and can I wait 2 weeks to buy the camera or am I gonna wake up tomorrow and find him completely transformed?

Takes a long time. Not sure on total, but, you may not get a complete changeover in a tank. For some reason, I've heard many tank raised don't complete their color change to adults. Remember the phrase "theonly things that happen fast in a marine tank, are bad things. Good things take time and patience." So, no, you won't have to worry about waking up tommorrow and suddenly finding a completely change angel.

My son just did a report on Imperators/Emperors for Science. "We" found the change takes place between 8-12 cm. Never found the length of time it takes. I assume it takes a while. I think you will be safe in waiting for the camera.

Mine has been changing slowly over the past 6 months. He is still probably only a quarter of the way changed. It started with a faint yellowing of the base of his tail and some of the stripes in the middle of his body. Now he is starting to get a white mouth area, and some more horizontal yellow stripes. I have been working on pictures, but trust me, you can definitely wait the two weeks.
