i am configuring a 180g system, oceanic rr
it will have a 35 gallon sump and 15 gallon refugium

the skimmer will be powered with a mag 18- 1200gph in sump

1 durso overflow will go to sump/refugium and will be returned with an iwaki 30rlxt
the other overflow will be a close loop, what pump is recommended, or what GPH do i need?

How will the closed loop be set up ? What kind of water movement you looking for? What corals will you be keeping? WW

What WWiley said. Pump requirements are determined by the water movement you want to achieve, which is turn driven by the animals you want to keep. Start with your critters and the environment you want to recreate. That drives everything else.

P.S. WWiley, it's not nice to brag about your ability to grow exotic plants. I've been told that I'm a cyanobactre magnate (or was it magnet) but I don't gloat about it in my signature.

Dude, as far as the pump goes. The biggest that you can afford, and the most noise you can put up with. Of course you have to consider if you want it in the sump or will it be external? The internal one's create a lot of heat in the tank, you need to keep that in mind. That being said, you need to consider on getting a bigger sump. With that size tank you will not be able to keep much water in your sump. You want to be able to shut your system down without overflow. Just food for thought.

You pretty much described my setup. I have a 40 gal sump instead (nothing else fits under the oceanic) My returns are 1" with check valve's so I can control it somewhat. I also have the mag 18.
