Im wanting to clean my powerheads off, Is there a mix to water and vinagar? or can i use straight vinager?

You can use 100% vinegar without a problem, just be sure to thoroughly rinse it off before using it again.

hi.
Don't be over concerned if you can't rinse every single molecule of the vinegar off. Acetic acid is relatively harmless in very small amount. Some even use it to make kalk.

if vinegar doesn't cut it, use muratic, or dilute miratic (HCL) if there is alot of calcium type buld up. It wll eat throught the calcite build up, just portect ANY metal parts..again rinse with plenty of water...

Personally I would stay away from muraic acid and the like. Vinegar is strong enough, just let it soak over night and a light scrub in the morning to remove any remaining sludge will be all it needs.

kenzy is talking about some serious cleaning!

As for me, I soak a powerhead for a half hour in pure vinegar then give a light scrubbing with a tooth brush. Then the powerhead gets a rinse.

Muratic acid (typically about 30%) will have the same affect as 5 % vinegar when diluted 1 to 5. Since the muratic is HCl, it will rinse very clean with water...just a thought

hi.
5% HCl is very different from 5% vinegar. Vinegar is weak acid, while HCl can still be very distructive at 5%. Use caution when working with HCl.

Now lemme ask this, does white vinegar or apple cidar vinegar make any diffrance?

Probalbly not, both are a mild acid. I've never used or bought apple cider vinegar, but I would assume the the straight is much cheaper.
