I received a shipment of mangroves a couple of months ago and have had them sitting in a jar of water on my windowsill up until a week ago. I then began to acclimate them to saltwater by adding a small amount of saltwater every day. However, I have noticed that there are a lot of freshwater creatures living in the jar, such as daphnia and other small creatures. They have not died in the saltwater, and appear to be doing fine. My question is whether anyone knows of anything harmful that could be introduced to my marine system if these should happen to survive all the way to full salinity. Does anyone know a) if they will survive; b) if they do, will they harm my pod and detrivore population in my refugium? Guesses as well as actual knowledge are all appreciated, as theories sometimes are more helpful than actual knowledge! Thanks!
