I received a shipment of mangroves a couple of months ago and have had them sitting in a jar of water on my windowsill up until a week ago. I then began to acclimate them to saltwater by adding a small amount of saltwater every day. However, I have noticed that there are a lot of freshwater creatures living in the jar, such as daphnia and other small creatures. They have not died in the saltwater, and appear to be doing fine. My question is whether anyone knows of anything harmful that could be introduced to my marine system if these should happen to survive all the way to full salinity. Does anyone know a) if they will survive; b) if they do, will they harm my pod and detrivore population in my refugium? Guesses as well as actual knowledge are all appreciated, as theories sometimes are more helpful than actual knowledge! Thanks!

I have read a little bit about this somewhere. I think alot of freshwater crustations actually breath from the surface so they pretty much can live in anything habitable. I know that you can add mosqito larve to a saltaquarium and it will live for sometime before it turns into adult mosqito's. they only sort of insect I would be afraid of is Dragon Fly larve because they will feed for a year a pond. So if you have any small creatures they may eat them. I wouldnt worry that much though because they are pretty big and you would probable notice them. I hope this helped and sorry for miss spellings
