Hiya guys,

If you haven't seen some of my posts I am new to the board but I have enjoyed your input and expertise. You have answered a bunch of my questions already

I am upgrading, well I have a 40 gallon reef and I moved it so I could put in a new 80 gallon that I ordered. I put the 40 right next to my desk in my home office and I love it there so I may just kee it as well. Don't tell my wife...She thinks it is going away. Anyway, I have a CPR backpack skimmer on the 40 that I really like. It has worked well and was reasonable. My question is: Can the CPR handle the 80 gallon with a 30 gallon sump/refugium? I know it is light but I have heard that you can "overskim". I thought this would be a good question for you guys. I would buy another if necessary but if this will work then ??? Thanks for your input!

When you sy overskim it depend on what you are trying to accomplish if you are keeping things that need DOCS than you may not want to skim at all, just balance what you keep. If your skimmer is the primary means to pull out protien and DOCS I would say you can not overskim. It really depends on your application and what you want to keep.

I think a single bak pak would not be enough for an 80 gallon tank, even with the Maxi-Jet mod. However, two would work just fine! I have 2 on my 90 FOWLR and the fish all seem to be happy and the algae doesn't seem to flourish TOO much.

I had a freind who uses a Backpak and we have both come to the conclusion that they are about as good as the Sealones, which are crap. Drill a hole in the top and drop in an air stone and they work great. Just depends on weather you want to bastardise your skimmer and lose your warranty, or go out and buy one that works.

I gotta agree w/ Mouse. I personally do not like my BakPak. I did the airstone mod and it works much better but I'm still not happy that I had to do that to make it work for me on my 40 gal tank.
