Hello,
I am trying to get a smany opinions as possible on my following plan. Any thoughts would help.
I am reconfiguring my 75 and would like to get your opinion on whether I am going to far with my thoughts for circulation. The tank will be set-up to hold primarily sps and clams also the hammer, favites, and torch I already have.
I am thinking of drilling six holes (four 1.5" or maybe 1" any suggestions and two 2") in the back tank wall two about 4 - 6" below the surface for overflows to the sump. Two evenly spaced in the center of the back wall as intakes for a closed loop. The intakes will be "T"'ed off with strainers on each side of the "T" thus giving me four total intake points.
The final two holes (2") will be located about 2-4" below the surface inside the built in overflow boxes next to the previously mentioned 1.5" sump overflows. These will be the return for the closed loop.
I think that I will have a Mag 18 connected to two 3/4" Seaswirls as the main return from the sump. Does anybody have this pump mounted externally?
For the closed loop I am thinking about the Amp master 2100. This will return to the tank via the two 2" drilled holes connected with vinyl tubing running from the pump to the bulkhead then a 45 inside the tank connected to another 45 (in order to make the turn into the water column). This will finally be connected to either two spraybars one running the length of the tank (front to back) on each side, or four 90's, one in each corner of the tank.
If my calculations are correct I should be able to achieve about 1100 gph from the Mag and about 2000 from the closed loop. Please comment on the feasibility of this plan as well as whether you think this is an overkill on a 75. TIA
