Almost a year ago I ordered some tampa bay aquacultured rock. When I got my order they had thrown in this "staghorn" type coral that was attached to a large oyster. Well after doing some rearranging in my tank I finally fragged this coral and mounted it. I know its from the florida area and it is a slow grower. Its probably grown maybe an inch since I've had it. The circular polyps are out during the day. Is it some kind of sps or colonizing coral? here is a link to the pic: ( I think you might have to type it in rather than clicking the link because geocities is wierd)

Thanks!

Hi Lilbugger,

I think you have a Cladocora sp coral. Congratulations! Not many hobbyists have this rare (in the hobby) Carribean stony coral!

For more pictures, go to google.com and click "images" then enter Cladocora.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply! So far the coral has done well besides being a slow grower. I also have some other that came on the rocks. I have several of these "brain" type corals with this one being the biggest. Here is the link to that one:

again you may have to type in the addy. This encrusting type coral is a faster grower than the other but with similar polyps.

Just follow the directions. Type the link into a new browser window. Clicking on the link won't work. Geocities blocks that for some reason.

sorry, I typed the 2nd link wrong, I just edited it. Instead of .html it was supposed to be .jpg. I don't know why geocities blocks the link but if you type it in or cut and paste into the address part of the browser it works. Geocities just has to be a big pain in the you know what sometimes.

I saw your mat of polyps on the unkown2.jpg and it is pretty common, Not an open brain but a cool find nonetheless.

If you have any starfish, move them to the refugium and if you want it to spread a little faster or onto another rock then surround it with small stones and cast a shadow over 3/4 of the mat. It will try and crawl out of the shadows into the light.
