I need to replace my twin tube 36 inch 30 watt fluorescent lamps. Currently I have coralife magtinic with external reflector and coralife Trichromatic lamps.
I like the color of the magtinic. But someone suggested I go with the URI Super Actinic R 30 watt NO, and either the URI Actinic White or Uri Aquasun .

Any recommendations? Does the color of the URI Surper Actinic R look the same as the Coralife?

The color of the 2 actinic bulbs is the same. I would not suggest replacing the trichromatic with a actinic white or a aquasun. Neither I really care for. Personally, I'd try a Coralife 10,000K.

Keep in mind that neither URI nor Coralife manufacture fluorescent light bulbs. They both spec bulbs from an OEM source and re-label them.

I don't know who their manufacturers are, but it is not outside the realm of possibility that they are actually made by the same company.

MattM, are you serious? That's the first time I've heard that! Even if they're manufactured by the same company I doubt they are the same bulb. I have URI actinics over my tank, and my wife has Coralifes over hers. Both are VHO's. Hers are bluer than mine, but mine are more purple-ish and definitely brighter.

Both look good however.

I've used both the Coralife 10000K (currently in my setup) and the URI aquasun - they are both good bulbs that I have used to balance a 100% actnic (uri) together with 2 175W MHs. In planning for future replacements, I recently opted to go with the URI in the future.
