If I have a 50 gpd RO/DI, can I put a 100 gpd membrane in when I replace the membrane or will that not work?

I do not know but intuitively, I would believe it would not alter the output or quality of water from your unit.

Why do you want to do that?

To increase the output. The prefilters and DI are the same...its the membrane that matters...at least i think so...I guess the question is...will a 100 gpd membrane fit in a 50 gpd casing...its hard to tell from the pictures how much larger it is.

RO membrane usually come in cartridge form. You just remove the old cartridge and put in a new. I guest you only need to find out if the screw fittings are the same.

But I seriously doubt changing the membrane type can increase output. My thinking is, its also dependant on the pressure pump capacity.

Hope someone else can throw some light.

Cheers

hi.
The membrane will usually fit because 99% of residential RO membrane pressure housing is the same size.

The only thing that need to change whenever you change the rating of the membrane is the regulating valve (don't know the tech. name) that determines the rejection ratio at the brine output side of the unit. If you keep the same old valve, the rejection ratio will be incorrect for the membrane, and you will either not getting as much RO as you should, or getting brine on the RO.
