I need help.

I am setting up a 150, and I have a 180 that I want to use as a sump under the house. Now, because of changes as to where the tank is going, the sump needs to be about 40 feet from the main tank, with about 8 feet of head, and I am wondering about a pump to run the system.

Do you have any pump recomendations?
Am I just fooling myself about having a sump that far away and should I just put a smaller one under the tank?

Thanks

I have a basement sump with about 20' of lateral travel. It's no big deal. I think vertically I push water maybe 13-14 feet, so we're probably talking 15-16 feet of pressure. I've used both a Mag15 and Mag18 with success, using flex PVC for plumbing to minimize turns. I would guestimate the Mag15 does about 200-300 gal. an hour, whereas the Mag18 does maybe twice that. With a 150, you'll want something larger, but I don't think you'll have trouble finding something adequate.

RR,
It will really depend on your pipe size, the GPM you are trying to push and the number of valves, elbows and tee's. You can do a search for friction loss calculators on the web. The 8' of vertical will have more pressure drop that the 40' of horizontal.

One word of advise. Invest in some good check valves. If the system shuts down, there is a good volume of H20 in the pipes and it is all heading back the the sump. I would place the valves close to the sump to prevent any flowback. Gravity is natures pump!!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info so far.

I do have an Ampmaster 3000 I was going to use. Do you think it is up to the task with all that lateral travel? Should I get a second Ampamster?
