I have a chance to purchase a JBJ Formosa PC light and was wondering what kind of experiences you guys have had or have heard of. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have the 130 Watt 24 Inch over a 15 nano and I like it. The fans keep it cool and with dual ballasts I can use separate timers for dusk/dawn affect.

A little pricey though, but then again I haven't found one thing in this hobby that isn't.

A lot of people seem to like them, but we stopped carrying them because a high percentage had to go back to JBJ for various repairs (over 50% if I remember right).

It was all done under warranty, but who needs the hassle?

This was about 2 years ago. Maybe they've improved since then - don't know.

I have one and when I received, it didn't work. Since I am mechanically inclined, I diassembled the entire thing and discovered that one of the screws had been placed right though and severed a the power line. A simple splice fixed it perfectly, but I'm lucky it didn't trip a fuse and/or start a fire. People get killed from frayed wires, let alone when you put a screw though it. Aside from the sloppy mfg job though, I have had no problems or complaints ever since.

For a few weeks now and have really no problems. The built in fans keep it cool as a cucumber so no heating problems. The lights and reflector are very bright almost too bright. That leads to my only problem. I'm running the 65 W bulbs one actinic/ one 10K and its a little too white for my taste wanted to go actinic/50/50 I did this in my other tanks it gives you a wonderful soft white and my acropora have never looked better.

SO on to the problem. JBJ does not make a 50/50 PC for there formosa. They don't make a 50/50 over 55 watts. I don't know if this is a design problem or the relative newness of the 65 watt 24 inch PCs.

Other than that there wonderful.
