i have a few pieces of lr that are starting to get infested with aiptasia. i can easily move these to an area of my sump that i can easily keep light from entering. will the lack of light diminish them. or i was considering moving them to a lit area of the sump and letting them multiply as a aiptasia scrubber as suggested by calfo...

sorry, no light will not kill them. There was another post about albino aiptasia. They will go white translucent w/o a light source. I transfered a piece of LR to my quarantine tank and the aiptasia was still there but it just lost it's color.

Aiptasia is just another hardy variety of anemone. It will survive with captured food particles without light. You will be surprised how long they will hold without light.........Your corals will probably starve before these do.

when I moved my livestock from my 20 to a 40, I left all the LR in the 20. It was lightless and only had a biowheel filtrating the water. I didn't feed the tank or take care of it for at least a month. The aptesia that had overrun the tank though, survived it all. So I bought 3 peppermint shrimp and tossed them into the tank. They wiped out the aptesia but recently, I found two aptesia in the LR that I moved over to my 40.

Those damn aptesia...

hi.
When human became extinct, I bet Aptasia will still be around. They can live without light by catching critters that wondered into the tenticles. As mentioned, peppermint shrimp (not camel shrimp) is often effective.

I have had great luck with Stop Aiptasia from chem marin. Its worth getting the applicator syringe at the same time. Sometimes it takes more than one treatment.
