Hi
Just got a new lion fish and he seems only interested in live feeders. I am trying to wean him to frozen seafood but he is simply not interested. Any tips for getting him to start eating non-goldfish.
Thanks

I have a striated frogfish that is similar in feeding habits to a lion. Initially it ate only live fish. I fed damsels. After a couple of weeks settling into its new environment it began to take silversides. I used a transparent feeding prong to gaff the thawed silverside near the tail and give it a little "live action", letting the fish sneak up on the silverside rather than puching it into the fish's face.

That worked for me. Now I can feed table shrimp, squid, and pretty much anything else the same way. I soak the food in selcon/zoecon or zoe so that it's as nutritious as possible.

What kind of lionfish?
First thing is to starve the fish for a few days (3-5days) then use a feeding stick and impale a silverside or shrimp, you want the food item smaller than the mouth of the fish. It is your job to convince this lionfish that this dangling piece of food is his food. so make it look real and don't put it in the lions face, make him come to it.
Many of the dwarf speices are more difficult to ween over then the large bodied lions, so be persistant.
I have other tips on a lionfish info sheet i wrote email me directly for it
