Anyone have ideas on how to find out for sure if I have a mantis shrimp in my tank? I'm pretty sure I do because I keep losing my gobies and blennies. I found one yellow watchman gobies head floating around the tank like someone cut it off with a scalpel (it was a clean cut) and I know he was alive and well a few hours earlier.

Any ideas on spotting or capturing would be welcomed.

Thanks!

I'VE EREAD THAT AT NIGHT YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO SPOT HIM. IF YOU CAN FIND OUT WHAT ROCK HE LIVES IN, TAKE THE ROCK OUT AND PUT IN STRONG SALTWATER HE SHOULD COME OUT! BUT YOU HAVE TO FIND IT FIRST. THEY ALSO SELL TRAPS FOR THEM ALTHOUGH NO GOOD STORYS ABOUT SUCCESS. OR THE COKE BOTTLE TRICK.
I HAVE SOME LOAD CLICKING COMING FROM MY 180. BUT I MIGHT BE MOVING IN A COUPLE WEEKS SO I'LL JUST CHECK EVERY ROCK TILL I GET WHATEVER IT IS!
WHATEVER YOU DO BE CAREFULL THEY CAN AND WILL HURT YOU!

I'm in the same boat as you fish guy. I have lost a firefish and two cleaner shrimp in the last month. Well I actually found the remains of one of the shrimp but never found anything about the other shrimp and firefish. I just have to stay up late one of this nite and check out my tank.

25Gator this is not an attack it is just to let you know... that typing in all capital letters is considered shouting and it is also very difficult to read when we have become so acclimated to small letters and only capitalizing the first letter of a sentence.

just thought I would say something because I have noticed you do this in quite a few of your posts.

Anyway it probably wont end the world or anything but I am sure it would be appreciated if you could use lower case.

Thanks :D

Thank you, Jawbone......Appreciated.

the_fish_guy, you will probably have to starve your tank for a few days (about 4-6 days), during which if you really have to feed a fish/coral, you will have to target feed him and leave no waste. After 5th day, place a trap in your tank with a piece of shrimp/clam meat, and wait.

If you succeed in capture one, trap again, and again....... Very likely, there may be more than 1 or 2 or 3.

I lost a goby that way too, but don't know if it is any kind of shrimp. I do have a brittle star. could that be it?
