I have a 65gal, 36" long, 23" deep, and 18" wide. It will be a FOWLR which I will eventually build up to inverts and low light corals. The only experience I have with powerheads was from my tank 12 years ago which used an underground filter. I do not want to use this kind again. Are there any you can recommend to me and give me a heads up for where to purchase them. LFS's don't have a very good selection where I live.

Is it being used to generate current in the tank, or is it going to be used externally to pump water from another tank (eg. sump to main)?

For internal current generation, I would recommend Maxijet 1200, 2 of them in fact. As these are not tornado strength yet very reliable for many aquarists on this board.

Try to stay away from large models of RIO, eg. 2500 and up. These has been reported of causing catastrophic slick leak when malfunctioning.

It will be used to add current to the tank. I am not starting up a sump immediatly. I figured I would wait until I have more in my tank, and the need becomes necessary.

Ditto on the Maxijets. They have great reputations and my experiences with them confirms it. Maxis also come with the best suction cup holder and an excellant strainer-accessories that many other brands are sadly lacking. A second placer, IMO, are the Aquaclear 402. They are powerful and longlasting, but do not come with the adaquate accessory items.

Just about everyone on the board loves their Maxi-Jets. Including me.

And just about everyone here hates their Zoo-Med Powersweeps. Including me ;)

Good luck!
