I need help deciding how to drill my acrylic tank. Should i drill at bottom of tank or should i do drain and return both on the back? Is there any adv or disadv? i just want a quiet operation. i didn't mention my tank does not have any overflows.
most have found that the only way to have a quiet drain is to use the durso style pipe. It is simple and cheap to build. You can also make your own overflow box if you want. I just made one for my friends 55 gallon. We drilled a 1" hole in the bottom, for an overflow going down the middle of the back wall of the tank. Then we went to TAP plastics and had them make a overflow box channel (about $30). We then cut slots in the top of it and glued it to the back of the tank. It works great and looks really good. TAP took a piece of black acrylic and put two 90* bends on it. It would be even cheaper for a corner overflow that had only one 90* bend.
