Hi there-

WEll, the subject is a bit decieving... my house has ants. So bad I need to bring in a pro. Chemical powders/sprays are all they have for ants. My question- what is the safe(er) pesticide to go with? I am scared to lose fish/wreck my tanks. The ants though, they can die miserable deaths, I am fine with that.

We're plagues with argentinian ants over here in CA right now. ITs pretty bad.

Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions on this.

Thanks guys,

KK

I think any forms of pesticide is deadly to your fish. But if the spray are in the form of liquid, I would choose spray over powder to minimize contaminant to the tank water.

You could also get 2mil or 3 mil plastic sheetings commonly sold in paint department of Homedepot to cover up the entire tank during hte pesticide application. Make sure you tape down the corners and folds of the plastic sheeting to ensure the powder/spray does not get into the tank.

Argentinian ants? How fast do they migrate from Santa Barbara to Pasadena where I live?......... :?

I've used a solution of concentrated peppers. Just get the hottest pepper available to you, boil them down in water (do in VERY WELL VENTILATED AREA), put solution in spray bottle, a killl the bastards. Hydroponic stores cary a similiar product, it kills many different pests safely.
