Hi,

I'm worried about ruining my RO/DI unit. I've got it hooked to the cold faucet that feeds a washing machine. Is this a higher pressure hookup than a sink faucet? Because I've noticed the drip rate is more of a steady and quick stream. I'm wondering if washing machine hookups have higher pressure, thereby ruining my osmosis membrane because of too high pressure. Any ideas?

Thanks all,
Brian

I have mine T'd off of the coldwater washing machine faucet also with no problems. I don't believe there are any higher pressure water faucets in most houses, think it's all just city water pressure. If you noticed a change in flow, did you happen to just hook up a solenoid at the same time? If you didn't put it on correctly that can happen, just a guess though. HTH

If the washing machine hook-up is closer to where the water comes into the house you will have more water pressure. Just like a pump the farther away from the source the less flow you get. I have mine hooked up in the basement very close to where the water comes into the house, the pressure gauge reads up to 60psi. When I turn on the water it goes right past 60 and almost back to 0.

i think they can run or should run at 80 - 100 psi. i am by no means positive on this i do not own one yet(will soon)but they have booster pumps for them! you need to check your water presure, i,ve seen street presure that would take your paint off the car and some that could'nt run a sprinkler! but i think the more presure the more good water you get, due to the pressure the membrain needs to push the water through.
you can go to homedepot and get a little guage, you should have a spot on the ro to put it.

Good call 25gator.

These gauges aren't that expensive and could be used down the road if you start to experience gasket failure in your house plumbing. In our house, the pressure was so high that it was wrecking our faucets etc. We actually had to install a pressure reducer coming off the water main.

There should be no difference in water pressure throughout the house. As said above the only slight difference might be if a faucet is closer to where the water comes into the house.

hi.
Keep in mind that there is a difference between static pressure and "dynamic" pressure when a faucet is turned on. RO unit has a slow flow rate, so it does not change the dynamic pressure at all. Static pressure is the same thru out the house.
