Question: Has anybody bought anything online from etropicals.com? I have not bought any livestock over the internet as of yet & have only bought dry goods. I was thinking of buying one of their "Build a Reef" packages that has free shipping when you purchase $60. Thanks in advance. - Jana

Hi Jana,

I bought one of their "cleanup crew packages" a couple years back and was quite pleased with my order (it was an order for Astrea sp. snails, Scarlet hermits, and a couple of Emerald crabs). Everything was packed nice, they threw in a lot of extra snails and hermits, all of which seemed to arrive alive and healthy.

I've since decided to stay away from Emerald crabs (the ones I had were picking off my coralline and taking chunks out of my SPS) and I actually prefer "Margarita" snails over Astrea sp. snails (Margarita's seem to do a better job and seem to stay off the tank walls).

I bought the Build Your Own package several months ago. I had a Tuxedo Urchin that was DOA but I got credit for it. I also got some Turbo Snails, Tiger Trochus Snails, Nassarius Snails, Emerald Crabs, and a Serpent Star. All the Turbos were of the small variety and have died over a few months. Everything else is alive and well.

ETropicals has been bought out by Dr Fosters & Smith (Petwarehouse) fairly recently. The descriptions have been paired down as has the variety but the prices seem the same. They also have a livestock guarantee (7 days?).

Yes, I've purchased from them several times. Good clean up crews.. I usually pick between them and www.reeftopia.com for snails and stuff. Make sure you acclimate sloooooooooooowly! Good luck!
